Funeral service for Mr. Lewis William Jones, age 68, will be held at 10AM, Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, 215 Bethel Baptist Street, Dr. Rudolph W. McKissick Sr., and Dr. Rudolph W. McKissick Jr., Pastors. Bishop Rufus H. Jones, Pastor of the House of God Temple #4 will serve as Eulogist. Mr. Jones of 1943 W. 20th Street peacefully passed away July 2, 2007 in Shands Hospital. A Jacksonville native, Mr. Jones was employed by the International Longshoremen’s Association as a refrigeration mechanic until he retired in 1999 after 32 years. Other affiliations include ILA-Local #1408 where he served as a Union Trustee for over ten years. Lewis Jones, or “The Bread Man”, as he was affectionately known, served the homeless and the aging for more than ten years. He was the Head of the Trustee Board for the House of God Temple #4 for 15 years. Mr. Jones was a church Deacon, worked diligently on his church’s outreach ministry for over 10 years, and was a promoter of Gospel music for 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Tommie M. Jones; mother, Ella L. Jones; daughters, Ms. Penelope A. Jones, Alexis C. Jones, and Mrs. Beverly C. Stergis (Felton, Sr.), and; grandchildren, Felton Stergis, Jr. and Kimberly Stergis; great-granddaughter, Miss Albrianna Simpson; sisters, Ms. Shirley J. Clemmons and Mrs. Rosa L. Johnson (Willie); brothers, Luther, Jr., Allen R. (Catherine), Arthur L. (Betty), Bishop Rufus H. (Donna), Elder Kermit D. (Melva), and Glenn P. (Genobia) Jones; seven brothers-in-law and 6 sisters-in-law; goddaughter, Ms. Carrie Chandler; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A Victory Service for Mr. Jones will be held in the mortuary WEDNESDAY from 4PM until 5:30PM, followed by visitation of friends from 6PM until 8PM. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church from 9AM until the hour of service. Interment will be in the Edgewood Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at the residence under the direction of Alphonso West Mortuary, INC., 4409 Soutel Dr. (904) 766-9671. Repast will be held at the church following the services.
