What I remember most about Pops was he always told you the truth no matter what... He had such a way of listening and always knew just what to say...Whether you liked it or not. I could talk to him about anything and beleive it or not I still took his advice and was glad he was there to talk to..He had a great laugh which I remember everyday. Pops you will forever be in my thoughts and heart.

I remember those long trips in the back of his van, too.  It seemed that no matter what you did, it was always so hot and crowded on that last seat.  He loved to listen to gospel quartets like the Mighty Clouds of Joy and the 5 Blind Boys.  I don't know how many times we have road from Florida to Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, and most of the east coast on that music.  By the time you arrived to your destination, not only did you have your favorite song on the tape, but you had learned all the words to every song.  There was no bathroom breaks unless we ran out of gas.  I always found myself wishing that the van had bad gas mileage or a flat maybe.    I think you even manage a few cat naps up there in the driver's seat, Dad. But we always got there and back.  And I don't remember ever having a flat (just my luck) or an accident.

No matter what I was going through, whenever I did go to church Uncle Lew would always ask me where I had been and why I hadn't been to church.  No matter what excuses I tried to come up with, he would just shake his head and say to me "Renee - that's not an excuse.  Would you tell the Lord that and expect to get away?".  He always gave me something to think about.  I also loved to hear him pray every Sabbath Day. His prayers always began by thanking God before asking for anything.  I never said anything to him about this, but it took hold of something inside of me that makes me thank God more and more now for his blessings no matter how the outlook seems to me.  Things may appear to be gloomy at times, but Uncle Lew taught me through his prayers that there is always something to be grateful for.  THANK YOU UNCLE LEW FOR HELPING ME SEE THE LIGHT!!

One of the things I most remember about my Dad was his ability to find his way around any city.  If he visited a city once, no matter how long ago, he could always find his way around as though he had been there yesterday.  I remember as a child we would take a family vacation every summer.  The trips were sometimes long and my Dad usually only stopped for gas, but no matter who came along, he would plan the route and make sure we all arrived at our destination and returned home safely.
